The mission of The Will Smith Foundation is to locate the need and provide the means of giving positive life experiences to children through education, art, music, sports and acts of compassion.
On June 3, 2007 we lost a treasure of a young man when my son
Will, 8 years old, lost his life in a tragic car accident on Maui. In
45 years, I truly had never met another human being as loving,
compassionate, and understanding as my Will. Family, friends, teachers,
and even brief acquaintances always remarked on his jovial attitude and
persistent enthusiasm in every undertaking he encountered. I will
always remember the gentle touch of his hand and a strong hug if he
caught me sad or crying. At such a young age, he was remarkably
insightful and a true humanitarian.
The only thing Will hated was to be left out of anything. He wanted to do it all. Whether it was snow skiing, bowling, basketball, baseball, football, mountain-climbing, tree-climbing, snowboarding, hunting or fishing, Will wanted to be a part of it. And he would try and try until he got it right. But perhaps Will's favorite thing to do was share with others. That is one thing he did not have to try to get right. Will looked at life much like a grown-up, showing compassion and generosity that was so unique in a child his age. All of these things ended for Will on June 3.
Inspired by this child's rich and benevolent spirit, The Will Smith Foundation has been formed to further causes that were close to Will's heart. The WSF is focused on providing positive life experiences for children through art, music and acts of compassion.
Of course, all of these programs and plans cost money. Your generous contributions to The Will Smith Foundation, a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are deductible for computing income and estate taxes. A quarterly newsletter will keep you informed of our latest projects and partnerships.
I had hoped to see Will grow up to do the things we are making happen through his Foundation. It is my life-long dedication to now carry through what this glorious little angel would have done here on Earth had he stayed with us.
Sincere Regards,
